Pull system

Import the xpo file for this project into version 3- SP3 system

Functionality

*********************************************

18th Sept 2006: A lot of people have asked me as to what is this exactly about.

Some manufacturing environments (for e.g. lean) demand a rhythm in production. One cannot have this rhythm if the scheduling gets hit from the sales lines. This modification removes this pain-point.  The prototype only considers sales forecast which is under your control thus allowing you to maintain the rhythm in production.

*********************************************

Do you want to try out the pull factor? (I am assuming that you know what is a pull system).

I always believe that a completely pure pull-system is a fiction. If I am manufacturing a product then I cannot go to a customer and ask him/her to buy the product just because I am following the pull system.

The system will always have a de-coupling point.

Here is a small prototype to simulate this.

What I have done is de-coupled sales lines from master planning. Now master planning completely ignores demand from sales. The sales demand is derived only from sales forecast. An inquiry form is also given to compare Sales Forecast against actual demand from sales.

Import the xpo and try this on demo data

bulletFor item P-2000/B, create a sales order for 1200 numbers.
bulletEnable coverage planning for warehouse for std-dim
bulletSet forecast plan reduction principle to none.
bulletCreate a sales forecast for P-2000/B, 200 numbers on warehouse GW.
bulletRun forecast scheduling.
bulletRun master scheduling and confirm that a planned order is generated.
bulletNow click on InventTable-Inquries-pull factor to compare sales forecast against actual sales demand and net requirements to compare sales forecast against planned orders.

You can go a lot further. For e.g. coverage by period, min-max stock, safety stock is not required. You could potentially tweak other master planning parameters to get the complete pull experience.

The form 'pull-factor' is far from being ideal, but should give you some idea as to what I am talking about.

Do let me know if you think of any advanced functionality. I will try to help you out.
