By-products for manufacturing

Import the xpo file for this project into version 3- SP3 system. The xpo file contains labels in en-us.

bulletFunctionality

Inventory parameters form has a new check box called ‘Activate by-products’.

By-products can be setup either from Inventory – setup – By-Products or from individual item (of type BOM) from inventory table Item – setup – By-Product.

The by-product journal can be set up under production – Setup – journal names

The ‘Automatic update’ tab on production parameters has provision to define the behavior for auto-reporting of by-products.

It is very important to note that by-products are consumed based on route feedback quantities. If route feedback quantities are absent then by-product journals will not be created. Further, manual creation and posting of route journal does not have any effect on by-products. In this case, by-product journals should also be manually created.

Typically either automatic execution or auto-reported as finished is enabled. One of them will post a route journal and the feedback quantities,  which will in turn create (and optionally post) a by-product journal.

When a production order is created, the by-products defined for the item – route version are automatically copied to the production order.

The form thrown up by Update – start has option for posting by-products. The default values can also be set-up. The same functionality is also available from Update- reported as finished.

I feel that ‘WMS’ functionality is not relevant to by-products and hence the same is not enabled.

If  ‘batch number group’ or ‘serial number group’ is activated for by-products then value of ‘product activation’ flag is used to allocate numbers.

Production orders firmed from master planning will have relevant by-products automatically created.

I again feel that master planning is not relevant for by-products hence no master planning transactions are generated for by-products. I recommend settings the negative days for by-product items equal to the coverage days.

Needless to say, inventory transactions are properly taken care of during the life-cycle of the production order. When a production order is reported as finished with ‘end job’ as ticked then ‘on order’ transactions for the by-product are removed.

Needless to say, inventory transactions are created properly and costing is correctly done while 'ending' a production order.
